Janet MacBean Shafer

Janet joined The Peacemaker Center’s team in September 2005 when through a generous funding grant, she became the Project Liaison for the Job 17 Project.  She has a Bachelor of Education with minors in English, Biology, and Environmental Education from Simon Fraser University in B.C. Canada. She also has a specialized diploma in Early Childhood Education from Langara College.

Prior to joining the center's team, Janet has taught in a variety of capacities including classroom teaching, corporate training, camp directing, pre-school and infant care.  She was on the faculty in the Early Childhood Education Department at Douglas College in New Westminster Canada, and a public school teacher with the Vancouver School Board before her family’s relocation moved her to Chester County in 1997.

Janet served as the provincial delegate for B.C. to the International Conference on Children’s Camping in 1994.  She has held certification as a low ropes course instructor, small craft safety instructor, and lifeguard.  Her volunteer work includes Chairperson for the British Columbia Camp Director’s conference, Board Member of Camp Artaban, First Aid Ski Patrol, and an award winning Cheerleading Coach and Choreographer for two high schools from 1980 to 1987.  She held the title of “Miss Richmond” in 1981.

Although now an American citizen, she admits to still preferring tea to coffee in the morning.  Janet attends Calvary Fellowship Church in Downingtown.  She is the proud mother of two sons, George and James.
