Ann Bacon Spooner

Ann Bacon Spooner

Ann Bacon Spooner received her Master's in Social Work from Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research in l974. She is a licensed practitioner in the state of PA. Ann also completed a two year certification program in Biblical Counseling from the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation associated with Westminster Seminary.

Ann joined the staff of the Peacemaker Center in May 2007. Ann has worked for family service organizations, public mental health services, churches and Christian-based group practices as therapist, educational consultant, pastoral counselor, speaker and trainer. She has maintained a private practice in Philadelphia since 1977.

Ann has experience counseling individuals, couples and families. She particularly enjoys working with women who are struggling with life transitions or depression, and adults who grew up with a physically or psychologically absent parent. She also appreciates helping engaged couples prepare for marriage. Helping parents and adolescents learn effective communication skills is another area of interest.

In addition, Ann has a desire to serve local churches by training lay counselors and offering consultation to pastors and their wives. Having served in a college student ministry and currently in the women's and lay counseling ministries of her church, Ann realizes how potentially exhausting ministry can be and how important outside input and perspective can be to maintaining one's emotional and spiritual well-being.

Whoever the population or whatever the circumstances in which Ann finds herself, her main passion is to help people discover how to apply the grace of God practically to the details of their life and to grow in their intimacy with God as His adopted children. One of her favorite quotes is: "God is most glorified in me when I am most satisfied in Him." (John Piper). She enjoys watching people discover the depths of God's love and the security that comes when we allow Him to be the "anchor of our soul" (Hebrews). In the midst of painful circumstances, Ann rejoices when she sees God doing "incredibly more than we can ask or imagine". (Ephesians)

Ann is married and has two children, a daughter who is a freshman in college and a son who is a sophomore in high school. Ann thrives on variety-different types of personalities, different types of food, different travel experiences, different styles of worship etc.
